about

Dietz wrote the music for this track more than 20 years ago. It was not until he moved from the "humdrum suburbs" ( see 'Another Lifeless Soul' , track 8 on 'Beauty Tips' album ) back to the city & a neighborhood established in early 1900's that he found the words the song required.

lyrics

Silencing The City

In the city sirens go chasing

Hear the bang of connecting train cars

What happens next, not always certain

There’s a pulse that’s hard to ignore

Days that drag corner me

There’s so much to explore

A photo from a walkabout

Reborn in pastels

All of my senses have expanded

The city’s silenced when I’m in this trance

In the city, lives in motion

Gears are cranking- now I’ve finally found

Like minded spirits with burning interests

Who notice beauty in the ordinary

Conversations overheard

Shifts in architecture

Pen to paper, words to chords

Surroundings that offer meaning

All of my senses have expanded

The city’s silenced when I’m in this trance
